I grew up in North Tampa, and this was one of the first things I photographed in a college photography course. This old water tower stands alongside railroad tracks in an area called Lutz. You can park on the road (Sinclair Hills) off of Nebraska Ave. I am sure it is probably private property (railroad owned maybe?), but I have shot here many times with lights and equipment without being hassled by anyone.

Gravelly Point is a favorite location for DC photographers looking to test out long lenses. You have a great shot of the runway and can hear the rush of jet noise as planes pass only hundreds of feet above you. Sunny weekends get a little busy , but on weekdays you don't have to jokey for position.

See Wiki artical on the location here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravelly_Point

This is a public park and as such requires a permit for any "big" shoot. I have shot here with strobes without a problem and park rangers are usually OK with it as long as you don't cause a ruckus. If all you are doing is shooting around with just your camera no permit is required according to city ordnance 9714. These pictures were shot on the edge of the boardwalk ( a local hangout for many nature photographers). You will see... Alligators, Birds of many types, river otter and much more.
